Hialeah: Dade F*ckin County

(Family Dramatic Comedy Series)

Greenlit by Amazon Studios, Hialeah: Dade Fckin County* follows first-generation Cuban-American ChiChi Perez as she flees a failed marriage and returns home to her disapproving family in the little-known Cuban mecca of Hialeah, Florida. A hard left from Miami and a world away from South Beach, it is the last place she ever wanted to be.

But this culture-conflicted neighborhood—overflowing with cafecito counters, Santería altars, and bench ads for ass implants—becomes the perfect backdrop for ChiChi’s reinvention. As she navigates family expectations, identity, and second chances, she learns that hay que resolver — you have to work with what you've got.

TV SERIES

Created and executive-produced by Alvarez, and directed by Clark Johnson, the pilot (with a second episode script ordered and delivered) stars Hemky Madera, Maria Canals-Barrera, Emma Sofia, and David Zaldivar.

Set in Hialeah, the "Ellis Island of South Florida," the series unfolds in a community that teeters between Old Havana nostalgia and a "big box" takeover, where older generations hold fast to tradition and Hialeah hipsters are "mixing it up." Consistently heralded in the media as the worst place to live in the U.S. (no, really), "The 305" proudly remains one of the most beloved communities among Cubans and Cuban Americans — where life, like a cafecito, is bittersweet with azúcar to taste.

This family dramedy pulses to an absurd comedy beat, punctuating real characters who deal with high stakes that play out as a fruit vendor blares "La Cucaracha." At the heart of this series, like a hug from Abuela, is love. For ChiChi, coming back to all that she loves (and doesn't love all that much) is turned up full blast.

Picked up by Amazon Studios.
